Evolution Korea
In the past the Korean scientific community was hesitant about engaging with creationists for fear of giving the movement more credence. The silence is no longer a viable option.
The STR has been fighting to eliminate the content on evolution from textbooks,

What is Evolution?
Evolution is a concept in science that explains the evolution of genetic traits over time. The theory is based on the fact that living things adapt to their surroundings which can result in changes in genes, or even entire genomes. These changes could over generations lead to the emergence of new species. Natural selection is the predominant theory of evolution. It explains how individuals who have advantages can reproduce faster and longer than those with less favorable traits. This variation in reproduction could eventually lead to the development and emergence of new species.
The term "evolution" is derived from Latin for revealing or

Early evolutionists such as Erasmus Darwin (Charles’s grandfather) and Jean Baptiste de Lamarck believed that species were predetermined to change into another species. Etienne Geoffroy St-Hilaire was Lamarck's embryologist pupil who came up with the term "transmutation" to describe this theory. Charles Lyell, in his Principles of Geology, published in 1833, challenged the idea of evolution, and borrowed the term from Geoffroy's student.
In recent years evolutionary biologists have defined evolution as a process that occurs when living things develop characteristics that enhance their chances of survival, or their ability to produce offspring. In time, genetic variation can cause a population to develop new physical characteristics or biological functions. Such a shift in gene frequency is known as natural selection and it is the main driver of evolutionary changes. However, non-genetic changes such as the increase in muscle mass due to diet or exercise can't be considered examples of evolution since they are not inherited by future generations.
Creationists are using the argument that evolution is controversial, even though it has been proven accurate by thousands of scientific tests and it has been tested over time. They argue that the concept should not be taught in schools. In South Korea, creationists won a few victories over evolution in textbooks for high schools. This includes the removal of references to the evolutionary roots of humans as well as Archaeopteryx - a feathered dino believed to be the ancestral bird's first ancestor.
Why is Evolution Important?
Evolution explains how the Earth and all its living species came to be. It is one of the fundamentals of biology, and helps scientists to understand how living things function and grow. Evolution also shows the connections between different species. Scientists study evolution to better understand the natural world and to make useful discoveries including the development of new drugs.
The evidence for evolution of biological species is overwhelming. There is no other scientific theory that explains as much about the universe as the life on our planet. It has been rigorously examined and confirmed for many years. Many people, and even religious leaders, are in support of the scientific theory. It is important to note that evolutionary biology does not conflict with religions, since the theory deals only with things, events and processes in the physical world.
In reality many religious people have discovered ways to reconcile their beliefs with the theory of evolution. For example certain Christians believe that God created the world through evolution, and that humans share an ancestral lineage with other animals.
It is essential that scientists and educators speak out for teaching evolution. In some countries around the globe, anti-evolution sentiment is growing. In the United States, efforts to limit the teaching of evolution have made some progress in some states. In South Korea, a group called the Society for Textbook Revise, an offshoot of the Korea Association for Creation Research (KAC), is campaigning for textbooks that cover the evolutionary history of horses and their avian ancestor Archaeopteryx.
While these are troubling developments, it is also important to remember that the evidence for evolution is overwhelming. The evidence comes from a wide variety of sources, including fossils, genetic studies and the behavior of living organisms. Other scientists independently confirm the evidence.
The majority of scientists support the theory of evolution. The reasons behind this support vary. Some scientists study evolution to make practical discoveries that can lead to the development of new treatments, while others are motivated by an interest in improving the quality of life for animals and plant species, typically to benefit humans. Some are simply curious, while others have a profound faith in God and

What is Creationism?
Creationists are those who believe that God created the universe and everything in it. They also believe that the Bible is God's word and should be taken literally. Many creationists are Christians, but not all. Creationists are generally divided into two categories: Young Earth Creationists (YEC) or old earth creationists.
The most popular type of creationist is the YEC. They believe that God created the universe in exactly the way that is described in the Bible. They believe that the biblical account of the first six days of creation is literal and that the universe and life on Earth were created only recently.
OECs might not be as well-known However, their beliefs are as passionate like those of YECs. OECs believe that the universe and Earth are billions of years old, and that evolution is a lie.
Both types of creationism reject the idea that scientific principles like natural selection and biogenesis can explain how life came to be on Earth. They argue that evolution is impossible, because it would require miracles. The pioneers of modern science shunned miracles out of fear they could lose their credibility.
Some creationists accept naturalistic evolutionary as well as special creation and refer to their belief as "theistic evolution." This is sometimes also called "continuous creationism" or "evolution from the original species." The theory suggests that God creates original species and then allows these to evolve over time. Then, these evolutionary changes will result in new species like the original ones.
Some creationists believe that God created all living things and the universe in a single event known as the Great Flood. These creationists believe that the original species were created at the same time and that they grew slowly afterward. They reject the idea of abiogenesis, and argue that self-replicating living cannot come from nonliving matter.
In general, creationists are against teaching of evolution in schools. Numerous professional associations, such as the National Science Teachers Association and the Association for Science Teacher Education are in support of this view, as do the American Anthropological Association and the Geological Society of America. Some scientists and educational institutions, however, are more flexible and allow creationism and evolution to be incorporated into their curriculum.

When people think of the concept of creationism, they often think of the United States.
