Cecily Strong has revealed that she got
engaged late last year.
During an appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers on Wednesday, the 40-year-old former Saturday Night Live star shared her happy news and detailed the hilarious way her fiancé nearly ruined the proposal.
Although the Schmigadoon actress seemed excited to share her engagement story, she has kept her fiancé's identity secret and has only referred to him as 'Jack' in the past.
'I got engaged,' she shared with her former colleague Seth, though she made sure to rib him in the process.
'I know, you always said, "No one will ever love you, and you will never get married." You were wrong!' she joked.

Her fiancé, whom she has only ever identified as Jack, had his surprise spoiled after Cecily saw a text message from a friend asking if she liked the ring he was going to give her
'I am eating my words,' Seth said as he played along. 'Did he pull it off well? Was it a surprise?'Unfortunately, her fiancé Jack's plans didn't go off as he intended, partially because Cecily was too much of a 'detective.'
She admitted that the two had had discussions about getting engaged in the past, so she was already keeping an eye out for any hints of a proposal.
'One day he was like, "I'm so inundated with emails and texts, look at this,"' she explained. 'And he showed me his phone, and the first text was from a friend that said, "How did it go?! Ring emoji." And then, I was like. "Oh no, should I?"
'And he went, "Did you see that?" And
light novel I was like, "I could try very hard to lie, but…"' she added.
But Cecily wanted to still leave Jack with an option to surprise her.'I was like, "Whenever you want to do it, that'll be the surprise,"' she recalled saying. But Cecily admitted that she 'still then took that from him' when she wasn't willing to wait any longer.
Although she said he could wait and surprise her later, she eventually couldn't wait any longer. 'I had kind of a rough night in December, and I was like, "Can I just wear the damn ring now?"' she said. 'So, that's how we got engaged'
She also joked that she had to wear the ring on her index finger for a time because she doesn't know her ring size and it ended up being five sizes too big; pictured in November in NYC
'I had kind of a rough night in December, and I was like, "Can I just wear the damn ring now?"' she said. 'So, that's how we got engaged.'
But even after getting the proposal out of the way, the comic star had other issues with her engagement ring.
'I don't know my ring size — I wear like every size ring,' she admitted.'So, he took one of those, and it was five sizes too big. I was wearing it on my index finger for a long time — not as a statement; it just would've fallen off,' she explained.
Cecily previously wrote about how she and Jack met in her 2020 memoir This Will All Be Over Soon. She shared that she met Jack at a Christmas party in 2019, but it came at an inopportune time, as she was still grieving the then-recent death of her cousin Owen.
'At first I thought it was so difficult to meet someone right as I was losing someone I loved so much. I knew he'd have to be patient with me,' she wrote in an excerpt published by Vulture, via Entertainment Weekly.
But Jack ended up being exactly as supportive as Cecily needed him to be at that difficult time. 'He'd have to let me grieve. It would be easier not to even try during that process,' she continued. 'But grieving for Owen was like nothing I'd ever experienced, and I promised Owen and myself to continue to let all that love be there along with the sadness.
