What is Evolution?
The word evolution has many nonscientific meanings. For instance "progress" or "descent with modification." It is an academic term that is used to describe the process of change of characteristics over time in organisms or species. The origins of life are an important subject in many fields such as biology and the field of chemistry. The question of how living things got their start has a special place in science due to it being a major challenge to the theory of evolution. It is often referred to as "the mystery of life" or "abiogenesis."
